Biography
I’m a Ph.D. Candidate in the program of Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media at North Carolina State University. My research and teaching interests examines the intersection of digital technologies and infrastructures, digital media or Communication Media in a Changing World, FinTech, Mobile Communication, and ICTs for Development. Generally, I am interested in broader debates about globalization of technology, platform imperialism, digital colonialism, and power and power structures. While grappling to comprehend the transnational movement of the tech giants, I am working to understand motivations for the massive financial and infrastructural investment on the continent, at the same time question what globalization of technology actually means for Africa, how empowering or disempowering this is to the African people and the digital economy. In specific, I am interested in influencing global media policy for the burgeoning tech giants in the African space when it comes to deep progressive concerns such as privacy, security, digital creative labor, data colonization, and social justice, among others. My scholarly work has appeared in Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR), International Communication Association (ICA), International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), Health Communication Conference (DCHC), UK Development Studies Association (DSA) and New Media & Society, Journal of African Interdisciplinary Studies and Kenya Scholars and Studies Association
